Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you’ll probably have noticed the latest trend in handbags. Yes, for the second year running, basket bags will be the most popular accessory of the summer. Made of straw, raffia or jut the basket bags are back in fashion.
Basket bags make me think of the French countryside, summer holidays strolling by the sea and eating al fresco.
They are really versatile, good enough to wear with jeans and a top on a day out. They are also perfect to keep all your essentials on the beach, and still look stylish. It’s the perfect style to achieve the beach-to-bar look.
It’s great to see how the High Street has reinvented this style, and whilst there are a lot of classic designs out there, there are plenty of fun ones too. Think pom poms, embroidery and long leather straps giving a modern twist to the classic basket bag. Circular and oversize bags, especially, will be a big hit this summer. And the best thing about basket bags? Even if there is a different trend next year they won’t look out of date, and they will be a great staple to have in your wardrobe.

When it comes to fashion I’m not one for following trends, especially when it comes to handbags, but I think a basket bag will be an essential for any summer wardrobe and it will look great for many years to come. I can see myself wearing this Next bag a lot during my summer holidays and I love the summery colour of this &otherstories one. If money was no object though, the Eugenia Kim would be first on my list.
Now, we only need summer to arrive!
