Afternoon tea is one of those British traditions I love. Eating lovely sandwiches, drinking endless cups of tea and best of all, eating lots of cake.
A couple of days ago we were invited to have afternoon tea for two at Moggerhanger Park. Moggerhanger Park is a Grade 1 Listed Georgian Historic House set in 33 acres of parkland and woodland in Bedfordshire. After extensive refurbishment Moggerhanger is now hosts weddings, conferences and other corporate events. It is a beautiful place easily accessible from London.
The afternoon tea is served in ” The Old kitchen” a charming little cafe that used to be -yes you guessed it, the old kitchen in the original house. The cafe had a bit of a rustic charm and a really homely atmosphere.
On arrival we were offered tea and we were presented with a three tier cake tray with sandwiches, cakes and scones. A selection of sandwiches, freshly prepared and really tasty; coronation chicken, cheese and tomato, ham and mustard among others. The staff were extremely accommodating and they offered to make up any other ones we might have wanted that weren’t in the menu.
And the cakes, that is the best thing of afternoon tea, right? We were told the cakes were homemade, and they were delicious. There were plenty for two of us, in fact we could not finish them. I loved especially the chocolate sponge cake and the macaroons, they were really flavorsome.
To finish up we had cream tea, jam, scones and clotted cream. The freshly baked scones were not only huge but delicious too. I am glad we didn’t have much to eat before hand as the amount of food on offer at Moggenhanger Park is more than enough for two people.
This is not a luxurious experience but a homely one. Moggerhanger’s Park afternoon tea has personal approach and gives the option to change or tailor the food however suits you. The service is excellent and you are really well looked after. I could not recommend it more and it’s superb value for money at £11.95 per person. Thanks Moggerhanger’s Park for inviting us, we will be back again.
