5 ways to add colour to your home in time for spring

We can now confidently say that spring is finally here. It has been a very long and cold winter and I am sure you are all as happy as me to see the end of it.

Spring to me means colourful interiors and lighter soft furnishings. Not everybody can afford or want to completely transform the interiors of their home according to the seasons, but it’s amazing what a difference a couple of little changes can make.

I thought I’d share with you some tips to add a bit of colour to your home.

1. soft furnishings

Spring is the perfect opportunity to update your cushions. Pastels and light blues are perfect for this time of the year. Florals are also great -I know are not for everybody but they can look great against plain patterns and they are really on trend at the moment.

It’s also time to put away your wintery throws and blankets and swap them for lighter softer ones. I like to have lighter blankets around as I’m always cold (even at this time of the year!)

2. Flowers

Flowers are an inexpensive option to add colour to your home. Bunches of tulips and daffodils can be picked up for about £5 from supermarkets at this time of the year  and they look beautiful. I always have some in my kitchen and living room and it’s amazing how much colour they bring to those rooms.

Little plants in pretty plant pots always brighten up any space, and again they don’t cost the earth and they will last for a while.

3. Pictures

Prints and paintings are pretty affordable these days. If you are arty you can even design and print your own creations. If you are not, places like Etsy and Not on the high street are great for finding quirky and unusual prints. Canvas print paintings are also another great way of add a splash of colour to any room and there are lots of different companies out there that offer a great range of options.

4. Redecorate

Refresh your walls with brighter colours. You don’t need to go wild and repaint the whole house, but maybe it’s time to repaint one of your rooms or create a feature wall. I am a colour lover but I’m always a bit anxious about being too bold with my walls, maybe it’s time for me to take the plunge and repaint one of them in a bright colour.

5. Accessories

Zara Home, H&M and Oliver Bonas are great places for home accessories. Vases, picture frames and trinkets can really make a difference in a room. Long gone are the day of plain vases, you can now pick them up in a great range of colours and styles.

These are my tips to bring a bit of colour to your home in time for spring. What do you think of these? Do you change your style now that the weather is improving?
