Master en-suite reveal

It seems like it wasn’t that long ago that I was showing you the plans for my en-suite -you can read about it here– and I can’t believe it’s now finally finished. I’m really pleased with the end result and it looks amazing – even better than I had imagined.

The en-suite was part of our loft conversion.  Initially I had grand plans thinking I’d be able to have ‘his and hers’ sinks and a big vanity unit, but unfortunately I realised pretty quickly once the building work started that I will be having a much smaller space than I thought, so choices were more limited.

From the beginning I had a very clear idea in my head of what I wanted; a luxurious, grown up space with a bit of wow factor.

The whole design of the en-suite was based around the dandelion encaustic cement tiles we used on the floor. I had fallen in love with them ever since I saw them in Pinterest, and I knew they’d be perfect the statement floor I was after. We also briefly considered some ceramic ones with similar design and much cheaper, but my heart was set on these.

The most difficult decision was probably choosing the shower. Yes, deciding on a shower enclosure type should have been straight forward. I really wanted something really modern and was debating whether to a choose rectangular one going the whole width of the room.  But I realised we needed to make the most of our limited space, so I decided to go for the offset quadrant option instead. I’m not going to lie, I’ve never been a huge fan of quadrant showers, but after a lot of thought I realised it would work really well for us. It took a bit of time to find the frameless one that was eventually chosen.

The concealed shower head and mixer taps add to the add to the design boutique luxury style I was after. The sleek design fits really well with the rest of the room.

I had seen a lot of images on Pinterest of sideboards transformed into vanity units and I was very keen to replicate them. In reality, all the potential sideboards I found were far too big for our space so I had to give up on that idea. After a lot of searching I came across an anthracite vanity unit that also had a matching tall wall cabinet. I was a bit worried about how it would go with the floor – it’s always a risk ordering something like that without seeing it in real life – but I’m really pleased with it. It really compliments the floor, and even though it’s not a colour I wouldn’t have initially chosen it looks great.

‘Teresa’s Green’ from Farrow & Ball is the colour I chose for the walls. It’s a fresh aqua colour with green undertones, a beautiful shade perfect for a relaxing vibe. Depending on the light it actually looks greener or bluer.

If our builder / project manager had been more organised we would have gone for a steam free mirror or fitted wall lights beside it, but unfortunately he was quite useless and he fitted all the electrics before we had a chance of asking him to do it. This left us with quite a big area to play with when looking for a mirror. It’s actually quite shocking how much they cost so we decided to go for a ‘cut to measure’ option, emulating our other bathroom.

Hope you had enjoyed this little tour of my new en-suite; as you can see I’m super pleased with it. Taking pictures of such a small space has been a challenge, made even more difficult with all the shine surfaces!

Would I have done anything different? I wish I had stuck to my original plan of black fittings as I think they would have looked amazing. I was put off by the hard water in London, thinking they’d be hard to clean but I think they might have been ok after all.
