5 products I’m loving this winter

The weather is still quite chilly in London and there aren’t any signs that winter will be over any time soon. My skin and hair are always drier at this time of the year – I guess the central heating and the cold temperatures outside probably make things worse. The older I get the more conscious I am of looking after my skin and this is probably quite a crucial time of the year to do so.

Here are my current 5 favourite beauty products. Some of these I use all year round but some others are great for winter when my skin needs a bit more refreshing and nourishing.

Fresh Brown Sugar body polish

Fresh is a relatively unknown brand in the UK but I’ve been a big fan of theirs for years.  This brown sugar body polish smells amazing and leaves the skin super soft. Containing a blend of primrose, sweet almond, apricot and jojoba oils that nourishes and moisturizes the skin, it’s perfect for a bit of pampering and to make you feel revitalized.

Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate

I did a review on this back in September (you can read it here.)  Four months on and I’m still really impressed with this. It’s not cheap but the bottle will go a long way. I use this most evenings before going to bed and there is a noticeable difference to how my skin feels in the mornings. This is not just a product for winter but something to use all year round.

Beaute Mediterranea Dragon’s Blood Regenerative Cream

This is something I picked up recently in the supermarket when I went to Spain for Christmas. It was very cheap, about 6 euro and it was a brand I’d never heard of before. But I was interested as it mentions that it regenerates the appearance of dull, ageing skin. I then discovered when I got back to the UK that it sells here for over £30. I’m actually quite impressed with it, it has an extremely thick consistency, a bit different from other creams I used. It also has a bit of a funny smell, which disappears immediately.   With dragon’s blood extract – obviously not a dragon but a tree – this cream is meant to have exceptional regenerative properties, transforming skin to increase elasticity. My skin feels super hydrated after using it and it’s just perfect for this time of the year. I now need to remember to stock up next time I’m in Spain!

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is one of those all round products that I use throughout the year. It’s a great and inexpensive product to remove eye makeup – you can use it to remove face make up too but I’m not too keen on having oily products on my face so I don’t use it that way. I also use coconut oil for my nails, especially if I’ve had gel polish on for a while as it can leave my nails quite weak.

My hair is in much better condition since following the curly girl method, you can read all about it here, but I still add a bit of coconut oil from time to time whenever I feel it’s too dry.

Origins drink up intensive overnight mask

I love using this mask at this time of the year. I don’t use it every night, only whenever my skin feels extremely dry. It smells lovely and it’s not greasy at all – I really dislike creams that leave my face feeling super greasy. It helps repair skin’s barrier to prevent future dehydration and signs of premature ageing, which is something that is quite important to me at the moment. It smells really nice and it makes my skin soft and plump in the mornings.  I have been using this mask for a couple of winters now and I can’t recommend it enough.

  1. I agree that different types of weather require different skincare regimes, that is particularly true in the winter, and even more so as you get older. And it doesn’t stop on your face, I have noticed recently that my legs, and even my arms are drier than they used to be, but I have discovered shower oils are a good way of hydrating skin without having to spend time applying body lotions and waiting for it to dry before you can get dressed in the mornings!
    1. I need to investigate a bit more about shower oils, I'm not very familiar with them but definitely something I will look into
