When I was a teenager and in my early 20s, I loved sitting out in the sun with no sun cream on, trying to get a tan and a bit of colour in my otherwise pale complexion. Fast forward 30 years and I’m now regretting all those times I didn’t use an SPF cream. Sunspots and pigmentation are something I’ve suffered with for a while, and there isn’t much I can do about it. The need to cover these is one of the reasons why I wear more foundation these days than when I was younger. I’m not a make up expert but I thought I’d share with you my 3 favourite foundations, which are very different, ranging from high end to high street.
Chanel Vitalumiere Satin Fluid
I’ve been using this Chanel foundation for years and it’s my all time favourite. It has a light to medium coverage and it’s great for dry skin. Vitalumiere is known for it’s moisturizing properties. It revives dull skin and gives it a luminous complexion – we all need a bit of that, right? The reason why it’s my favourite foundation? It gives my skin a glowy, dewy look which I love.
And of course you wouldn’t expect anything less from Chanel, it comes in a very sleek glass bottle, one you’d want to have on display. This is the most expensive of my 3 favourite foundations, it retails at £37 but in my opinion it’s really worth the money and a little bit goes a long way.
Kiko Full Coverage 2 in 1 foundation and concealer
I’ve been a fan of Kiko products for a long time, it’s a very popular brand in Italy and Spain but I feel like they are a bit underrated and not so well known here in the UK. Their packaging resembles those of MAC and Nars, but their prices are a bit more affordable.
This is a 2 in 1 foundation and concealer that works on the skin by hiding and minimising blemishes, leaving a matte satin finish on the face. It’s a full coverage foundation with excellent blendability. I’m not usually keen on full coverage so I make sure I only use a bit and try to build up to my desired coverage. I use shade WB15 which is a bit light, so more suited for me in winter.
The packing has nothing to envy the Chanel one, in fact it’s as good. A slim glass bottle that looks gorgeous on any dressing table for less than £20.
This is the cheapest of my favourite foundations and therefore an easy one to find on the high street. I decided to give Bourjois healthy mix serum foundation a try a couple of years ago after so many popular beauty bloggers raved about it. I absolutely love it now and to me it’s as good as the Vitalumiere. Ok, the packaging it’s not as sleek, but that’s not a big deal right?
Like the other two foundations mentioned above, it suits dry skin and it’s really easy to blend, giving a natural finish. It’s made from a vitamin-rich fruit therapy formula that gives your skin a boost of radiance and that to me is a pretty good selling point!
